A good portion of Doane biochemistry majors plan to pursue a health career. Preparation is very important and involves many areas of campus—students need a strong education in the sciences, excellent communication skills, and a demonstrated interest in service. Advisors in the Health Professions Advisory Committee work with you (in addition to your academic advisor) to help plan your coursework, find shadowing and internship experiences, develop skills for taking entrance exams and find information on the best professional programs for you.

Biochemistry, class of 2018
Studying at Doane has been one of the best experiences—I've been able to conduct research, present at conferences, and have my work published.
Student Organizations
Health and Medical Occupations Club
Health and Medical Occupations Club (HMOC) helps prepare members for future careers in medical-related fields (pharmacy, dentistry, physical or occupational therapy, medicine, etc.). Activities include touring UNMC and Creighton, providing job shadowing experiences, community service, and putting together a portfolio.
Student Organizations
Project SERVE & Noyce Scholars
Interested in having K-12 students get excited about science? Doane has received the largest National Science Foundation grant in school history with a goal of recruiting and retaining STEM teachers in urban and rural schools in Nebraska, where they are needed the most. Ten Doane undergraduate STEM students will receive $14,000 in their junior year and $24,000 in their senior year and become a part of a group of students who will participate in seminars, have a mentor from a urban or rural school and attend STEM education conferences, all with a goal of preparing you to teach in a high-need urban or rural school.
